Do you think about how lucky you are when you go buy a water bottle? Or about when you and your friends are out during the weekend spending money left and right?
Probably not, and there is nothing to be ashamed about. Most people do not think about that all. America is the place where people come to live the life of their dreams, but in reality. if you look at just the poverty rate in New Haven, 12.4 percent of the people are below poverty level. Most of them are veterans and their families.
The graph to the right shows poverty by race. Whites are the more fortunate ones, and blacks and Hispanics have a higher amount of poverty. However, poverty nationwide drops .5 percent while in Connecticut it increases .3 percent.
Where are we going wrong?
My question is when are we going to step up and do something about this. I saw with my own eyes, and heard for myself how just in New Haven alone poverty rate is increasing drastically. It is time for us to take a stand and do something right.
